In 2024, at least 78 people died trying to cross the English Channel, making it the deadliest year on record. This is more than the total number of deaths between 2019 and 2023. A third of deaths were of children, including a four-month-old baby from Iraq who died on October 17, 2024.
We cannot accept men, women, and children dying at our border when there is an obvious solution - safe routes to cross the Channel and claim asylum.
