Ask your MP to oppose the end of permanent sanctuary

The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, is ending permanent refugee status.

From today, people who are granted protection will have their status reviewed every 30 months. If the Government decides, on review, that it is safe for that individual to return to their home country, they will be expected to leave the UK.

Experts have said this change won't act as a deterrent against Channel crossings, with any effect 'marginal'. However, ending permanent refugee status will leave men, women and children who have survived war, torture and persection in limbo, unable to lay down roots and rebuild their lives.

The media are reporting that backbench Labour MPs oppose the Home Secretary's decision - which means it's really important that we write to our MP's and ask them to oppose it.

Use our quick tool to email your MP and ask them to use their platform to call for this damaging policy to be reversed.
